NJF seminar 435 Risk and Crisis management in Nordic Agriculture 16-17 September 2010 Sweden |
 |
 |
 |
Nordic agriculture operates in an increasingly turbulent world with fluctuating prices of resources and products as well as uncertainty on the financial and real estate market. Furthermore contagious animal diseases, environmental legislation and extreme weather poses political and production risk for Nordic farmers.
It is in this turbulent environment that, farmers with ever more increasing capital requirements are experiencing pressure on profit performance and being exposed to increasing risk.
Many Nordic farmers are in a financialy stressful situation that could further take them into a severe crisis situation.
The role and need for effective tools and processes to manage risk and crisis situations are becoming ever more urgent.
There is an increasing need to develop effective tools and processes to manage risk and crisis situations.
The competitive farm must not only be capable to produce at low costs but also be able to calculate and manage risk.
There are available tools to manage risks, they include insurances, contracts, futures and other measures to reduce either the likelihood of a risky event or the consequences of a realized event.
So far, consultancy concerning the different risks has been fragmented and has not focused on the risks of the entire farm. Little attention has also been given to the process of managing delicate situations where farmers together with suppliers, bankers and advisers have to find ways out of liquidity scarcity or find viable exit strategies.
This seminar looks forward to harvest and interact experiences from researchers and professionals. Besides the key note lecturers, poster and paper presentations, the second day of the seminar is centered around case studies. Participants will be invited to work with actual cases on how to manage risk and crisis management in agriculture.
